Title: Construction Safety Director (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

WHY YOU WANT THIS OPPORTUNITY

This position holds a crucial role within the company's leadership team and reports directly to the Executive Management team. The Safety Director will be responsible for managing and overseeing the implementation of safety strategies and practices to ensure the safety of every worker. This includes identifying potential hazards, assessing risks, and implementing protocols to prevent accidents.

We are seeking an individual who is passionate, detail-oriented, and skilled at managing complex systems. The ideal candidate will work closely with management and employees, ensuring comprehensive training and commitment to following all policies and procedures. Strong communication skills, a deep understanding of regulatory compliance requirements, and the ability to plan and execute effective training programs are essential for this role. Overall, the Safety Director plays a pivotal part in establishing a safe and healthy working environment for all individuals on-site.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement safety programs and drive a strong safety culture by identifying hazards and developing mitigation plans.
  • Train employees on safety procedures to ensure consistent, compliant practices.
  • Conduct site safety inspections, investigate incidents, implement emergency response plans, and coordinate with project teams and stakeholders to ensure consistent safety compliance.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, maintain safety documentation, stay current on industry regulations, and drive adoption of evolving safety policies and best practices.
  • Establish and lead corporate safety strategy, programs, KPIs, and performance evaluation criteria.
  • Guide safety planning in preconstruction, support project pursuits, and maintain strong industry and regulatory relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, corporate, and client requirements; research OSHA regulations and lead inspections.
  • Set inspection criteria, analyze safety data, and identify trends to improve company and subcontractor performance.
  • Direct safety training requirements across roles, coordinate specialized training, and manage safety communications and reporting.
  • Lead crisis response and investigations, address client/tenant/public safety concerns, collaborate on corporate risk strategy.
  • Travel required up to 50% of time.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the construction industry, with a focus on safety management.
  • Required OSHA 500/510 Certification and Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction codes, and industry best practices.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills are a must.
  • Proficient in analyzing and researching to define and solve problems.
  • Skilled public speaker who can effectively communicate safety information.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize multiple business unit needs, tasks, projects, and demands across diverse geographic areas.
  • Handling confidential information and leading in emergency or crisis conditions.
